About Us 

The owner of Beacon Project Management is Dorian Medlicott, a highly qualified and experienced project manager and cost consultant from Wales in the UK, where he constructed offices, health facilities, commercial stores, industrial units and hundreds of houses - winning national and regional awards in the process.

After bringing his extensive experience to western Canada in both Fernie and Canmore, Dorian project managed numerous landmark developments including the superbly prestigious schoolhouse and spa at the exclusive 901 Fernie development for Parastone in downtown Fernie.

Beacon has managed over a hundred multi-family units in Western Canada, dozens of homes - both custom and speculative, and worked on a number of successful industrial and commercial projects - the most prominent being the Loaf Bakery in downtown Fernie.

Dorian has managed almost $100 million of construction value over the past 7 years, and well over $500 million over his career to date.

Dorian Medlicott has a first class construction degree and is a proud member of the following professional institutions:

  • Canadian Construction Association - Professional Construction Project Manager.
  • Canadian Institute Of Quantity Surveyors - Certified Construction Estimator.
  • Chartered Institute Of Building - Incorporate Member.

What do all these qualifications mean? It’s simple - Beacon are qualified to build your construction project and most importantly, be accountable for your investment.

When not at work, Dorian is almost always involved in sport. As an ex-professional rugby player, he brings his experience to many kids sports teams, and also coaches mountain biking as a level 2 certified instructor - although he admits to enjoying the downs more than the ups!

It is our mission at Beacon to make the whole process an enjoyable and rewarding journey whilst always working to our clear, pre-defined targets. To achieve our goals we need to dedicate our resources to you on a very personal level giving the time and attention a project deserves - that’s why we only build a select number of projects each year. 

At the core of our philosophy and success is detailed planning and cost management. So many projects are needlessly rushed to get started without professional pre-construction planning, and they all have a common outcome - failure. Our planning process allows us to use our sophisticated cost estimating system to calculate the best fixed price possible for the client.

All major professional construction institutions, without exception, recommend a fixed, lump sum price as the most cost effective delivery method for almost all building projects. We do not believe in cost-plus or promote this project delivery method as a valid option for our clients.

As clients, you invest vast sums of money and energy into your project which can place you in an extremely vulnerable position. Beacon are qualified to handle these huge sums of money and are accountable for the investment you make - and we have the track record to prove it.
